A nursery built around patience, not inventory turnover.
Oak & Petals began with a simple frustration: the varieties that define the world’s great ornamental gardens — collector peonies, lacecap hydrangeas, dinner-plate dahlias, grafted Japanese maples — were nearly impossible to source reliably in India, and harder still to find already adapted to a real Indian climate.
Srinagar turned out to be the answer. The Kashmir Valley’s elevation, cold winters and mineral-rich soil closely mirror the native and cultivated climates of many of the plants we grow — which is why varieties that struggle in the rest of the country thrive here. We built our nursery on that advantage, working in small batches with a team that knows every bed by hand.
Three principles, applied to every plant that leaves the nursery.
Provenance over volume
Every variety is sourced deliberately — from specialist growers in the Netherlands, New Zealand and Japan — and we hold ourselves to knowing exactly where each plant came from.
Acclimatised, not just imported
Newly imported stock spends a full growing season in our Srinagar beds before it's offered for sale, so what reaches your garden is already adapted to Indian conditions.
Small batches, real attention
We don't grow at scale. Limited runs mean our team can hand-tend individual specimens rather than manage a commodity crop.
